Week 7

Happy Tuesday!

TL;DR – My name is Drew and it is snowing and I can't play golf.

Welcome to another edition of The Mulligan. Two of the three members of our team — Nick and Drew — are located in New York and Philly, respectively, where we’re currently buried under at least a foot of snow. It’s rough. I am deeply jealous of Daniel, the third member of the Mulligan team, who’s down in South Carolina and actually had a tee time today. 

It’s really hard to play golf in the winter.

I just moved up to Philadelphia from Durham, North Carolina, where the golf is plentiful and year-round, so this is really my first winter where I haven’t been able to drop everything and hit the course on a whim. (Full transparency: I make 80 percent of my career choices to support my golf degen lifestyle.) I’ve been able to get in, like, maybe one round a week if I’m lucky.

Instead, I'm getting my golf kicks in three ways:

1. Obsessively making lists of all the possible nine-club combinations I could feasibly use to get around a track. I like to walk but I’ve got an achy back, and nine clubs is enough to hit the numbers I need and not have to reach for the Advil once I get home. 

2. Playing a LOT of PGA 2K21. I’ve found that playing five rounds of video game golf offers the same level of emotional satisfaction as playing maybe… four holes? But mainly it just makes me want to play real golf. 

3. Helping out with LinksDAO. Waiting for it to get warm enough to play golf again is, in effect, an act of thinking about the future, and more specifically a future in which I am playing golf. And that is what LinksDAO is pioneering: Communities of golfers using the technology of tomorrow to collectively own and govern the courses upon which they play a royal and ancient game.

Highlights

DAO Governance Vote Sees Record Numbers

Golf claps all around! This past week, LinksDAO successfully held its first community governance vote on three proposals put forth by the founding team, marking the first of many ambitious community milestones we aim to achieve.

It's official. We’re really DAOing this.

Governance Voting Launched

On Monday (1/24), the team published the first set of proposals on our Discourse, the official proposal platform of LinksDAO. Discourse allows for community members to workshop proposals before they are moved to Snapshot for official voting. 

Snapshot is our off-chain voting platform that allows LinksDAO NFT holders to vote, without paying gas fees, on community-governed decisions. Voting went live at 8pm on Tuesday and concluded on Thursday (1/27). 

All three proposals passed with a resounding yes!

First Vote

Activate NFT Member partnerships

1. A 25 percent discount for LinksDAO Global members and a 20 percent discount for LinksDAO Leisure members at Ship Sticks. (Good for the next year.)

2. A 20 percent discount for both LinksDAO Global and Leisure members at Devereux Threads. (Good for six months.)

3. Free monogramming with a bag purchase for both LinksDAO Global and Leisure members at Minimal Golf.

Second Vote

Restore 13 Leisure and five Global NFTs to the early community members who were victims of fraud/social engineering

Sixteen individuals are confirmed to have had their NFTs fraudulently removed from their wallets before wallet safety education was clearly established in our Discord.

Instead of using the NFTs in the Treasury to restore these lost memberships, the team decided to reduce the listed supply by sweeping the existing floors on OpenSea..

Third Vote

Use OpenSea secondary sale royalties to donate to Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat.Learn.Play Foundation.

Over the 72-hour period from 1/27/2022 to 1/30/2022, 156 memberships worth a total of 163 ETH were exchanged. With our royalty rate of 7.5% per transaction, LinksDAO generated $30,494 to donate to the Eat.Learn.Play Foundation!

• The Events Pod plans to host the first LinksDAO IRL event in Austin, TX during the first week of SXSW 2022. If you're interested, please fill out the SXSW Member's Survey here!

• Two of our Social Pod members, Jack and Aston, are hosting a Twitter Spaces on Wednesday (2/2) at 8pm EST. Come and chat about the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and everything Web3.

• Linksdao.io is receiving an overhaul. Soon, our website will be much more comprehensive and include features such as a list of current Global and Leisure member benefits and a more up-to-date project roadmap.

• The Community Team is working on the ability for members to launch their own RFC proposals in Discourse.

Golf enthusiasts and celebrities are continuing to funnel into the LinksDAO community. This week, country music superstar Jake Owen and NBA Guard J.J. Redick joined the clubhouse!

What else?

• The Operations Pod launched the community-facing Notion board.

• Numbers from the membership survey were finalized.

• Cooper beefed up security in the Discord and banned more than 450 accounts.

• The first official LinksDAO POAP was distributed to each member of the community who participated in governance voting.

• The Events Pod was created to focus on upcoming golf/crypto/tech/Web3 events and how LinksDAO can get involved.
