75 Days Since Mint

gm.

I can't say that I've ever golfed in 20-degree and 70-degree weather in the same weekend... at least I couldn't say it before SXSW.

Now it's all I ever say. Seriously, my wife can't get me to stop talking about it. Even my 8-week-old newborn starts crying every time I bring it up because he's just so jealous that I got to golf 4 times with ~150 degens in Austin, Texas."But Dad," exclaimed my barely 8-week-old, "Don't you regret even a little bit that you got so badly sunburned? I mean, why didn't you wear any sunscreen? It's basic golf prep that you lather in sunscreen for a weekend in Texas."

"No, son," I said staring down at him. "These are battle scars. It was at the turn at Barton Creek alongside Greg Egan that this blistering red, scorching wound began to appear on the back of my neck. I wouldn't have it any other way. Some day your children's children will be sharing stories of LinksDAO x SXSW."

But it was too late. My son had already dozed off.

Was it all just in my head?

Strap in. Like all issues before this, I can say with confidence this is our best Mulligan yet (much unlike the many actual mulligans I took during SXSW).

Highlights

First Member's Tournament in the Books

Major milestone achieved. This past Sunday, LinksDAO hosted its first member’s tournament at the Fazio Foothills course at Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas.

What an incredible scene it was.

By 9am, more than 130 members and 20 event staff had arrived at what seemed like the highest point in Austin to grab some coffee, hit the driving range and gear up for what ended up being the best single day of LinksDAO’s journey so far.

After an introductory speech by Jim Daily, members dispersed throughout all 18 holes for the shotgun start.

The course was immaculate. It brought you out of your comfort zone, asking you to hit shots you don’t normally hit at your local club, from the blind layup with water long to the tight-grass punch outs from under trees (of which there were many for the Mulligan team). The elevation change was constant and consistent, adding another layer of complexity to each and every shot.

And what’s a tournament without contests and prizes?

LinksSXSW Members' Scramble Winners

Greg, Randy, Jim, and Mike took home the first tournament trophy while sporting their newest LinksDAO merch. 10th place and 20th place also won vouchers to the pro shop.

Ashes Cigar Lounge Boom Stick Challenge

Ashes Cigar Lounge is a local, female and black-owned community lounge for the many cigar enthusiasts of Austin. Yonneque Zeno, the founder, graced us with her presence and set up at the 10th hole with her daughter to hand out boutique cigars as players made their way down the cart path from the elevated tee box. Greg Norman Jr. hit a 326 yard bomb, beating out Parker (parkiboi in the Discord), by just a couple inches to secure the title and the box of cigars from Ashes.

William Murray Longest and Pebble Putt Challenge

While Parker missed out on taking home the cigars, he and his scramble mate Paul both managed to secure a William Murray golf gear bag and an Arccos Sensor kit by sinking the longest traditional putt (32 ft 3 in) and the longest Bill Murray-inspired Pebble Putt            (25 ft 1 in). Their team also took 3rd overall in the scramble - a talented bunch.

P.S. LinksDAO has officially gone global. Shoutout to Wonder#2158, who will be translating each edition of the Mulligan into both Japanese and Chinese.

Jim Daily joined the Cryptoland Podcast to break down his LinksDAO journey. He also dove into some pressing topics i.e. the economics behind buying a course, course membership, challenges building in Web3, and so much more. Listen to it here.

Mike Dudas also made the rounds, jumping into two Twitter Spaces hosted by BetDEX Labs and Chapter One. If you've got some time on your hands, we highly recommend both.

Community Spotlight

Directly From LinksDAO Members

I’m sure we can speak for everyone who attended the inaugural event when we say that it was the experience of a lifetime connecting with fellow LinksDAOer's. What makes LinksDAO great is the incredible community we’ve all built together, and that was on full display without a doubt throughout the entirety of the weekend.

Instead of describing our own personal experiences though, we thought it’d be best to call on attending members to give their thoughts. After all, this is the community highlights section. So… thanks to Feegas, Funkrnaut, and Bhpavo for volunteering!

The Top Liner:

Interview with Feegas (Samantha)

1.       Give me your Sunday rundown. What was your favorite part? How were your group’s vibes throughout the day? How was meeting fellow members?

Sunday began with a non-atypical golfer’s routine: alarm going off before sunrise and greeting the sun while heading to the golf course for an early AM tee time. We were treated with tacos and yogurt parfait for breakfast and headed to our tees for the shotgun start. Given that all four of us in the foursome had different ages, professions and interests, we may have not crossed paths in any other way but LinksDAO. Our group may have seemed like an odd mix, but we were soon united with the determination to win the scramble competition. (And we won prizes!)

2.       Coming out of this event, how did your views on LinksDAO change? What feelings did you take away?

Seeing various DAOs emerge in the booming Web3 world, I was starting to become bearish with the lack of clarity, ambiguous responsibility delegation, and inadequate delivery in communication that culminate into failure for most Web3 communities. However, strong leadership, a well-executed IRL event and a welcoming community certainly changed my view of LinksDAO and also, more broadly, the future of DAOs. It was great to make in-person connections with people behind the Twitter Spaces, obscure PFP’s and social media handles.

3.       How’d you play out at the Barton Creek Fazio Foothills course?

It was honestly the first time I’ve picked up a golf club in months, so my golf game needed some cleaning up here and there. I was definitely not as sharp as I wanted to be, but it was a ton of fun being out on the course again.

Quick Hitters:

This past weekend 150 LinksDAO members met up in Austin, TX for a weekend of linksy vibes. Franklin's BBQ, mini-putt, a jam band and tacos on 6th street provided just the right amount of Texas twang to get the weekend rolling. Lion’s Municipal is a special place for golf in Texas and will forever be a special place for LinksDAO. Topgolf on Saturday night was for trickshots, chicken nuggets, and introductions. Sunday's round at Barton Creek’s Fazio Foothills course was a pleasant ride through hill country filled with nature, “golf” swings, and immaculate vibes. While the golf was fun and the food was fire; the conversations and people I met will forever be the highlight of Link’s first IRL event.

By: Funkrnaut (Trevor)

The 150 members from around the world nailed the vibe and execution just as harmoniously as the LinksDAO leadership team did! Starting off at Ben Crenshaw’s beloved Lion’s Municipal and ending at Fazio Foothills in the TX hill country - you barely ever see a last minute event run so smoothly like this from start to finish. I met so many people I have been chatting with regularly since December; made a ton of new friends; and it was super cool that everyone was doing something unique professionally – truly a one-of-a-kind community. I’m so excited to take this journey with you all and hats off to Daily, Dudas, and the rest of the leaders who made this happen.

Upcoming

Doug's Tour

One of our largest outward-facing community initiatives going forward, with LinksDAO’s SXSW Takeover in the rearview, is Doug’s Tour up the East Coast.  As we inch closer to launch at the end of April, we asked Doug to give us the top things that he is looking forward to.

From Doug himself:

Community-driven content. Up until now, the golf world and sport’s world at large hasn’t really seen content from the community, by the community, and for the community. It is going to be my honor visiting 20+ members at their home tracks, getting to know them and hearing their stories.

Giving back. Charity is going to play a huge part in my trip up the coast. I’m planning multiple stops, one in the Carolinas and one in NYC, where I’ll be using the tour’s platform to give back and raise both money and awareness for great causes.

Traveling. Every year I make this trek up from Miami to Boston, but this upcoming 2022 trip will be so much different.

Brand awareness. The content that comes out of this trip will continue to cement LinksDAO as a force in the golf world. I believe it will help us build on the relationships with brands we're already collaborating with and continue to drive interest from people and organizations around the globe. More importantly, it will showcase all of our amazing members in a way that hasn’t been done before.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more details!  Thanks to you all for your support. I can’t wait to get on the road. – Doug
