Week 8

We've been having a ton of conversations with the major players in traditional golf, from the equipment side to the apparel side. And they all really want to do something with us. They're fascinated with dipping their toes into the crypto and NFT space.

Jim, LinksDAO Team on the 02/07 Twitter Spaces

Hello!

Before we delve into this week’s range bucket full of LinksDAO updates, there’s something we at The Mulligan need to get off our chests

It’s about Macklemore. His golf swing. It is too armsy, especially on the follow-through. Look at this thing. *Will Ferrell in Zoolander voice* I feel like I’m taking crazy-pills over here! Macklemore. My man. Don’t make me have to change your name to Rotateyourupperbodymore.

I’m just doing a little good-natured swing-roasting of Macklemore, obviously, and Macklemore, if you happen to be reading this, we at The Mulligan would gladly send you some videos of our own swings for you to rip apart in return. But we bring it up because this weekend’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, in which Macklemore played, was awesome for the game.

Watching guys like boxer Canelo Álvarez, Bills QB Josh Allen, Mookie Betts of the Dodgers, country star and LinksDAO member Jake Owen, the rapper Schoolboy Q, and, of course, Macklemore all teeing off on national TV felt like a sign of golf’s changing identity. These guys were swagged-out, having fun, and showing some serious chops with their sticks. In other words, they helped show what we already know: That golf is the coolest thing in the universe, and it truly is a game for everyone. At LinksDAO, we aim to be a major change agent within this moment of flux for the game. We’re honored to be on this journey with y’all, and we’re excited to tell you about what we’ve been up to.

Highlights

URL to IRL

After an incredible amount of effort put in by the Events Pod over the course of the past week, the Community Team’s first proposal has been pushed to a vote on Snapshot.

Before we detail the proposal, it's worth highlighting that two weeks ago, the Events Pod did not exist. A couple of community members, Joe and ryanprickette ⛳. 🏌, reached out to the Community Team, took the initiative, and ran with the planning of the event. One week later: LinksDAO is going to Austin!

This is just one of the many stories like this. Have an idea? Join the Discord and get involved!

So... what's the proposal?

LinksDAO’s inaugural IRL event, coinciding with South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas from March 12 to March 13.

Saturday:

  • Takeover of an Austin municipal course

  • Night golf and socialization at one of the area’s Par 3 courses

Sunday:

  • Takeover of an Austin premium course

  • Member Tournament

  • LinksDAO product reveals

If you haven't done so, cast your vote here! Voting closes on February 10 at 6pm.

LinksDAO: Built Different

LinksDAO has certain qualities - a particular set of skills, if you will - that set it apart from a typical organization:

  1. Work pods controlmembers and non-members alike have contributed time, effort, and skill to collaborate in the last ~6 weeks towards the overall progression of the community. More than simply offering suggestions, they’ve driven projects, created proposals, designed brand packages, built applications, and so much more. LinksDAO's upward growth trajectory is in large part due to these coordinated, community-driven work pods.

  2. Social presence — LinksDAO social platforms (Twitter, Instagram) are run primarily by community members. More specifically, we've got a group of volunteers who collaborate and execute social strategies in real-time. Show me a Fortune 100 organization that has a community controlled and run social presence. Doesn’t exist. This is just one of the many categories LinksDAO is helping to create.

  3. Snapshot proposals — The entire existence of a Snapshot vote catapults this community into DAO territory based on its democratic values to put something to a vote. Do you think Tim Cook gives a podium round table discussion with all Apple employees and puts major organizational and structural decisions to an Apple-wide vote? Answer: no he doesn’t. The fact that the community gets to voice a “yes” or “no” on major decisions at all is unique.

LinksDAO is what it is right now because people in the community have stepped up and decided to help drive the project forward.

The community consists of passionate and bullish LinksDAO fans, golf enthusiasts, and Web3 HODLers who believe in the vision and direction of the organization as a whole.

LinksDAO is unmistakably DAO-like, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Press

It was a busy media week for LinksDAO.

Jim Daily joined Ian Stonebrook from Boardroom to discuss the evolution of LinksDAO and what's next for Web3. Take a couple minutes to read it here.

Mike Dudas and Greg Egan joined DeFi Dad for a live interview on Twitter.

The Team hosted a Twitter Spaces outlining what LinksDAO members should be looking forward to over the next month.

Community Spotlight

Road Trip!

Beginning May 1, LinksDAO’s very own Douglas Buckets (@DouglasMetaBuckets in the Discord) will make the trek from Miami, where he caddies in the winter, to Boston for the summer months.

Doug will be seeking to meet with fellow LinksDAO members in person at their clubs for a round of golf to feature their courses, represent our community, and shift the norm of interactions within LinksDAO from online to in person.

We believe that this is a giant leap forward. The content that comes from Doug's trip will be used not only to highlight each member's individual course, but also show the world our widespread, rapidly growing network.

20 rounds. 20 courses. 30 days. If you’re interested in hosting Doug at your course, fill out the form

Working Pods: Version 2

You said you wanted to bring your skills to the table to help build the world’s greatest golf and leisure club. We heard you.

Over the past couple weeks, the Community Team has been constructing, testing, and collaborating on the second version of our Working Pods system, which will create a much more seamless process through which community members can get involved with LinksDAO. Ultimately, we want LinksDAO to be a place where EVERY member has the same opportunity to contribute and help shape the future of our organization.

How will it work?

Members first earn XP through participating in Discord discussions. As members cross certain XP thresholds, they will gain more visibility into which projects each of the eight working pods are tackling. If they’re interested in contributing to a project that matches their skills, members will be able to make meaningful contributions to projects and progress up the pod leadership structure.

How will it look?

This rollout will also be accompanied by a complete refresh of the Discord channels and roles. As members climb the pod leadership ladder, they will gain access to new channels within each working pod that flow with the graphic above. Upward mobility is the best way to describe the scope of this new system.

This process is fluid and may be subject to changes

What Else?

Strokes Gained DAOing

It's safe to say that golf has experienced a dramatic shift over the past 30 years. Ever since Tiger stepped into the spotlight in the late 90s, tour pros have completely overhauled their approach to the sport. This is in part due to the pace of innovation in modern technology. Data analytics, specifically golf analytics, have gone from the backburner to the forefront, and are now very much apart of every professional player's game.

Data analytics are also apart of our game. The Analytics Pod has been hard at work crunching data from surveys, social platforms, and the blockchain to help the entire DAO make better, more informed decisions. Check out some of their most intriguing findings below.

  • 56% of members have held since mint

  • Only 3.5% of total memberships are listed on secondary markets

  • 33% of all accounts in our Discord are less than one month old, meaning LinksDAO has onboarded a significant amount of people into Web3

  • Our Twitter has garnered more than 8.5M impressions since creation

  • 314 Ethereum has been generated through our 7.5% royalty on OpenSea

  • Only 298 users who were here for more than 4 weeks have left...total!
