Week 12

Hello!

I'll keep this intro short and sweet since there is so much to catch up on. It’s important to remember the reason that we’re doing this whole LinksDAO thing: Because we love golf, and we want to use Web3 as a tool to reinvent the country club.

Highlights

LinksDAO at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

LinksDAO Founding Member Jim Daily and 2023 Ryder Cup Captain Zach Johnson teed it up last Wednesday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Pro-Am. I'm sure you saw the content all over our socials, but you're probably wondering... who was able to consistently get so many up-close-and-personal shots of these two?

In comes Dougie Buckets, our content czar and full-time caddie who resides down in Miami. Doug was on Jim's bag for the entirety of the round and wanted to share his incredible point of view directly after he finished up his loop at Bay Hill. What better place to do that than right here!

The Post Round:

So you, Jim, and Zach met for the first time on Wednesday, tell us about the group's chemistry through 18 holes.

It took us a few holes to get going, but our chemistry was on point by the 9th. Zach was really laid back, dishing out Caddyshack jokes and giving advice whenever he could. At the same time though, he was absolutely lasered in on every shot. Seeing Zach and his caddie's relationship up close was very intriguing, they kept it much lighter than I was expecting. Getting to know Zach and finding out he's heard of us before was insane. He was stoked to be paired with us.

And Jim is awesome. With how fast we're moving, I forgot that LinksDAO wasn't even an idea in the beginning of December. In my opinion, Jim is exactly what you want in a leader and someone to caddie for. He's smart, competitive, and calculated, but also has a great sense of humor. We vibed off the bat. Best part was I didn't get any crap for my bad reads... which there may have been just a few of.

You've seen your fair share of golf, what stood out to you while being that close to Zach Johnson? He's got two major championships under his belt.

The first thing that comes to mind is his misses. I mean as an experienced caddie I'm mostly used to chasing balls into spots I didn't even know were on property. Name a bad shot, guarantee I've seen it. But Zach’s misses were so small that some of the shots he "missed" are shots I'd be thrilled to hit.

He also gave Jim and I a bunch of putting tips. If there was one thing I left the 18th green with, it's that pace matters much more than your line. When he helped us read putts, he would point out 2 spots and say anywhere between here to here based off your pace is where you should be aiming. It's definitely something I plan on bringing down to Doral.

You've been out and about quite a bit over the past few weeks, first at the Honda Classic and then at the AP. What type of content have you been shooting and what can we expect to come out over the coming weeks?

The past couple of weeks have been incredible. We've mainly been utilizing our iPhones and posting to Instagram, but we've amassed a rather large content inventory in the process. We also just finished up shooting and editing the first video of our upcoming LinksDAO Tour Up the Coast series. We played a nice track down here in Miami with one of my buddies and a LinksDAO member.

What stood out to me at both the Honda Classic and Arnold Palmer Invitational was how many people at these events knew about LinksDAO. We had some branded poker chips that we were handing out and half the people I went up to had already been clued in on what we're working on. And the people who weren't aware were super receptive to our mission, that's for sure.

Analytics

Setting a Standard

The NFT space is difficult to measure and predict. After all, if you knew which projects were going to moon and when, you’d probably be reading this on a yacht or one of those super-cool floating homes in Portland. Or even, like, a pontoon boat with a tent on it. The point is, if you always had the alpha, you definitely would not live on land.

So how can we measure the success of an NFT project or a DAO? There are no financial statements to evaluate, and good luck trying to build out a DCF model like an overworked investment banker.

Despite hours of pondering, we couldn’t figure out what to do, so in the spirit of Web3 we decided to buidl. Introducing...

The Web3 Impact Score

This singular metric will allow everyone in the space to measure the level of the success. We decided to measure this based on three key pillars: ownership (unique ownership, percent of NFTs held since mint, and percent of memberships unlisted), traditional reach (social media, news articles, organic celebrity involvement, podcasts, and partnerships with irl brands), and Discord health (messages per communicator, churn rate, and consistent message volume). There’s a maximum score of 1000, allowing us to slot Web3 projects into five distinct categories:

  • 700-1,000: Paradigm-Shifting

  • 500-699: Blue Chip

  • 300-499: Quality Project

  • 200-299: DYOR

  • 1-200: Rug Pull

To illustrate this metric in action, here’s a look at the evolution of LinksDAO’s Impact Score from its mint, three weeks after the mint, and now in March of 2022. Want to guess where LinksDAO ended up? Here’s a quick breakdown of the growth that LinksDAO has experienced over the past two-ish months.

It’s probably not that big of a coincidence that we both invented this metric and also ended up being classified as a paradigm-shifting project, but hey, we’re buying a golf course and this team is incredible. Interested in learning more? Keep an eye out in the Discord for an infographic explaining it all soon 👀

P.S. Our first IRL event is taking place this week at SXSW in Austin, TX. We can't wait to get down to the Lone Star state and play some golf with the 100+ attending LinksDAO members.

Marc Serota, one of the most well-respected photographers on the PGA tour, recently partnered with LinksDAO. Listen to the introductory Twitter Spaces here.

Be on the lookout for the launch of our official pro shop, which is going live very, very soon. Make sure you have your Discord notifications enabled!

Community Spotlight

LinksDAO Is For Everyone

Accessibility has always been at the center of our mission. Since the beginning of LinksDAO, we have been focused on creating the world's greatest golf and leisure club for everyone. To be frank, Web3 is dominated by white males. While we have inclusive attitudes, those attitudes mean nothing if we don’t continue to actively work on bringing women and non-binary folks into our community.

Since the last edition of the Mulligan, the diversity and inclusion team has been hard at work developing a roadmap for how we can continue to weave inclusivity into our core ethos. What's next on that roadmap?

  • Assessment. What are the areas for growth in terms of diversity and inclusion issues?

  • Cohesive strategy. How are we going to continue to move forward in terms of building an inclusive community? In what order will we take the next steps?

  • Implementation. The logistics aren’t always straightforward — we have to balance the current state of affairs — that golf and Web3 are both heavily male spaces —  with our vision for the future.

Reciprocity

One of the earliest benefits floated within LinksDAO was reciprocity with other members-only clubs. Aside from the opening of our first course, the idea of reciprocity garnered the most attention from the community... by far.

We didn't forget.

This past week, the Community Team launched one of its first cross-pod initiatives to help push this much-anticipated project across the finish line. Steve P., our newest member, will be drawing on his years of experience in the club memberships space to create a Web3 take on what we believe to be one of LinksDAO's most exciting utilities.

There is no better time to remind you that LinksDAO is a global brand. Our membership currently encompasses 43 out of the 50 U.S. states and 41 countries around the world. It’s very possible that before the end of this year you'll have the opportunity to play a round with a golfer you've never met on a continent you've never stepped foot on at a private club you've never heard of... all through what we hope to be a best-in-class reciprocity program.
