Links Officially Acquires Spey Bay Golf Club and Announces Architect for Redesign. Initiations Open on June 8th!

This past weekend was filled with some exceptional golf. Viktor Hovland continued his run of excellent play, capturing his 4th PGA Tour victory in a playoff at Jack Nicklaus’ The Memorial Tournament. On the LPGA Tour Rose Zhang had her “Hello World” moment as she won in her professional debut at the Mizuho Americas Open, just two weeks after winning the NCAA Championships and eclipsing Tiger’s Stanford University record of 11 tournament wins.

In case you missed it Links also recently had its “Hello World” moment. In our last edition of The Mulligan we detailed how Links entered into an exclusivity agreement to purchase Spey Bay Golf Club. Well… the acquisition has officially closed as of early May 2023!

Links is now the sole owner of just one of 247 true links-style courses worldwide. The purchase of this historic 18-hole track positioned along the Moray Coast of Scotland definitely sent ripples through the golf ecosystem, but the deal closing is not what we are referring to as our “Hello World” moment. So without further ado…

We’re extremely excited to announce that we’ve partnered with world-renowned golf architecture firm Clayton, DeVries and Pont to redesign Spey Bay Golf Club! 

Set to begin in Fall 2023, the project will include a substantial renovation to focus on maximizing the dramatic coastline and enhancing shot variety and playability throughout the course. Founded in 2019, CDP is the partnership of three of the world’s foremost architecture practices that have helped to deliver some of the world’s top-rated golf courses including Cape Wickham Links (Tasmania), Barnbougle Dunes (Tasmania), Kingsley Club (U.S.) and Greywalls at Marquette (U.S.).

Upon completion Spey Bay will include a reversible 18-hole track with up to 7 different routings. For more information we highly recommend you listen to the Twitter Spaces we hosted with CDP and read the announcement blog.

Spey Bay Golf Club Initiation Details

To coincide with our architect announcement, Links Golf Club will be opening its doors to golfers everywhere with three course membership tiers, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, beginning on June 8th. The details on what each tier includes can be found in the image above or on our website. Here are the highlights:

• All three tiers are not required to pay dues for at least 2 years at Spey Bay Golf Club

• All three tiers get discounted tee times at nearby courses Strathlene, Buckpool, Maverston and Cullen

• Platinum and Diamond members receive LIFETIME initiation to all future Links courses

• Platinum and Diamond members will have their names immortalized on the Founding Member patio

• Initiations will be token-gated through our clubhouse

Spey Bay Golf Club Grand Opening Event

Yes, you read that headline correctly… Links will be hosting a Grand Opening event at Spey Bay Golf Club from July 14th to July 18th for all members! Join us in Scotland as we explore the surrounding area, enjoy Spey Bay’s rich history and meet the world-renowned architects that will be redesigning our course.

• Friday, July 14th: Travelers arrive in Aberdeen

• July 15th: Local and traveling members will come together for a lighthearted competition. Traveling members will learn about their new club from members with generations of history at Spey Bay

• July 16th: Famed architecture firm CDP will be onsite to go into details of their plans to elevate the golf course over the next year

• July 17th: Opportunities to play more golf at Spey Bay or other local courses, or simply explore the area

• Tuesday, July 18th: Travelers depart from Aberdeen
