103 Days Since Mint

Good morning.

Follow this Scottie Scheffler timeline with me…

February 13, 2022: wins in a playoff at the WM Phoenix Open, his first victory on the PGA tour.

March 6, 2022: wins by one stroke at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

March 27, 2022: becomes the number one golfer in the world after a win at the WGC - Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin.

April 10, 2022: slips on the green jacket after a 3-shot victory at the 2022 Masters Tournament.

Days between his first win and the green jacket ceremony? 56.

You're looking at one of the best runs by any player on the PGA tour in quite some time. Four wins in six starts is no joke, especially with the depth of professional golf these days.

Scheffler is truly a tier above the rest right now, and with the exception of an incredibly relatable 4-putt on the final hole, the 25-year old played near perfect golf en route to his Master’s win.

Rory McIlroy brought some fireworks, holing out from a green-side bunker on 18 to tie the final round record of 64 on Sunday. Right after Rory, Collin Morikawa (his playing partner) holed out from another green-side bunker. Back to back hole outs on 18 at Augusta? Unbelievable.

And I would be remissed not to give a shout out to Tiger Woods. Though winning the tournament was out of the picture after a rough Saturday round, much can be said for making the cut in his first PGA tour start in 17 months. Watch every shot from Tiger's first round, where he shot -1, here

Tiger fans should stay excited too, as he just confirmed he will be playing in the The Open this summer at St. Andrews, the home of golf, and two of his three Open victories.

Golf Course Updates

The underlying mission here at LinksDAO is clear. We're building the world's greatest golf and leisure club. But it'd be impossible to see that mission through without, you know, buying a golf course.

Well... during our last Twitter Spaces Bez gave a comprehensive update on where the acquisition process currently stands. Recap below.

Highlights:

  • We're in the closing stages of signing an agreement with a top-tier club management group.

    • Goal is to close by the end of April.

    • This group will help us run a proper, tight RFP process for a course architect. They'll also help us source both existing courses and attractive sites.

  • After pen hits paper with the club management group, we'll move to sign with an architect per the above RFP process.

  • Both the management group and multiple architects (some of the most well-respected in the world) have been eager to start evaluating options with us, even before the official agreements are signed.

Golf Course:

  • Considering the purchase of a course that's already playable, then having the architect we sign with give the entire course a refresh via green complexes, bunkering, routing, grass type, tree addition/removal, and the like.

  • In an ideal world, to coincide with the acquisition of the existing course, we're also considering the possibility of purchasing a site to build a course from scratch on.

Events

It's been a couple weeks, but how about LinksDAO's SXSW takeover? Incredible time, incredible people, incredible golf.

The Events Pod is well aware that the trip down to Austin shattered expectations on multiple fronts and set the LinksDAO event bar quite high. Good news... Joe, Ryan, and the rest of the team have been hard at work since their flights home from Austin. Prepare to see an incredible mix of LinksDAO events sprinkled throughout the rest of 2022.

Miami, early June: Golf and charity auction that concludes at SoHo House Miami.

NFT NYC, late June: Multi-day event with golf and socializing around NYC. Course hint: The guy that wears red on Sundays won a major here.

Fall/Winter: LinksDAO's first competitive championship series.

Plus more, stay tuned!

P.S. The Partnerships Pod announced this past week that LinksDAO has begun a relationship with Bettinardi. Global members will have exclusive access to a raffle of the Honeycomb Collection, their initial NFT drop of 777 hand-drawn pieces highlighting the 25-year history of the Bettinardi brand.

“Partnering with LinksDAO was a no-brainer to offer their members the perks of getting allow-listed for the Bee Keeper Society, and being a LinksDAO member myself made this that much more exciting,” said Sam Bettinardi, President of Bettinardi Golf. “I take great pride in anything that has the Bettinardi name on it, and being the first OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in golf to jump into Web3/NFTs, Bettinardi Golf plans to push the envelope in this amazing new space and be leaders of the digital community within the golf industry.”

Community Spotlight

The LinksDAO Genesis Tour

We're excited to share with you that Proposal 8, The LinksDAO Genesis Tour, has officially passed. Starting with a blowout event in Charleston May 11th, The Genesis Tour will follow Doug up the East Coast for two weeks as he stops at fellow LinksDAO member's home tracks for rounds of golf.

Not only will this pilot project highlight the value of the Links community, but it will be the first of many steps towards building out a proper content strategy to help attract a broader audience to Links. This content will expand LinksDAO’s media footprint, enhance our marketing efforts, and help to onboard new members.

Education

The Blockchain

As we begin to build out the education section of The Mulligan, we feel obligated to touch on the building block of crypto, DAOs, and NFTs — the “blockchain.”

Blockchain technology has been around for a few decades, but the bitcoin whitepaper written by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008 popularized it by implementing cryptography and math to encrypt and secure bitcoin transactions in a timechain.¹  Simply put, a blockchain is a timestamped chain of blocks, each block containing data pertaining to transactions by the holders of the private keys to native assets within a given set of time.

Even more simply put, a blockchain is nothing more than a database.²

All transactions, including the location of your NFT, your wallet's funding, and transaction history, can be found using “block explorers” like Etherscan.io. You can also use the Ethereum Token Approval tool to check what assets and NFTs are at risk.

Blockchains, like bitcoin and ethereum, are distributed ledger technologies (“DLT”) that record the history of all transactions on top of their networks. They are revolutionizing the way the internet works by enabling property rights that are provable via "on-chain" activity.

As a shared, tamperproof ledger, blockchains are effectively a crypto asset’s source of truth. They enable crypto assets to be exchanged — and this is important —  pseudo-anonymously in a censorship-resistant peer-to-peer manner.

Ultimately, this new technology's mission is to empower individual freedom by allowing anyone access to their assets and funds at any time, in a global marketplace, securely, over the internet, without the intervention of, or need for, a central intermediary/third party.
